Top 10 albums of 2009

  1. Blueprint 3 – Jay-Z
Probably my favorite Hip-Hop album of all time. Easily the most listened to album this year in my iTunes. The album has no skippable songs and flows perfect. Also has my favorite song of the year, Young Forever.
  2. Never Better – P.O.S.
P.O.S. would have easily been my favorite Hip-Hop album until the Blueprint 3 dropped. That being said, this album stands out from the mainstream radio rap that is so excessively disappointing. Side note – one of the best live shows of 2009 too.
  3. Manslaughterer – Schaffer the Darklord
I’m sure no one knows who STD is, since most don’t know what nerdcore is, but when I downloaded this album, I couldn’t believe how clever every song was. From rhymes jumping from how blood carries oxygen to non-stop movie references to an amazing integration to popular video game sounds, it’s a perfect nerdcore album.
  4. Nothing Personal – All Time Low
This album brings me back to the days of Blink-182 and Sum 41. Going back through my iTunes, I can’t believe how many plays I put through it. On top of that, it’s just a perfect album to throw on when your in a good mood.
  5. Daisy – Brand New
I adore Brand New. While Daisy isn’t my favorite Brand New album, it still stands out to me. I love it. It’s so different from their last two and while all three are amazing, Daisy is so creatively different that it fits perfect in my top 10 of 2009/
  6. Congregation of the Damned – Atreyu
I couldn’t believe how good this album was. I was a big fan of Atreyu back when The Curse dropped, and then I dropped them off my playlist until now. While I may have missed a couple albums in between now and then, this album was one of the best musical buys I made this year.
  7. The E.N.D. – Black Eyed Peas
Boom Boom Pow may have been the most downloaded song of 2009 (iTunes and Amazon) – but I love the energy (no pun intended) in this album. Reminds me of overnights at work, reminds me of just being excited at the moment.
  8. Not Without a Fight – New Found Glory
Another impressive, unexpected album. New Found Glory was always hit and miss for me, but this album rocked my iPhone for quite a long time. Catchy, flows well, worth a listen.
  9. Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
I think what I love the most about this album was the songs with no lyrics. Not saying the lyrics are bad, cause 1901 is one of my favorite songs of this year, but this album was quite impressive. This is also probably the most “chill” album on my top 10 this year. Not a bad thing.
  10. Weezer – Raditude
I’ve always liked Weezer, but never enough to make an entire album buy. While Red Album might have been my first big step into Weezer, until the terrible reviews, I’m glad I waited until this album to drop. Can’t Stop Partying will definitely be played at my Wedding.
